History of Wolcott, CT
The town that is now known as Wolcott, Connecticut, located in New Haven County, was originally settled by the Connecticut Colony in the 1730s. The border lands between the towns of Waterbury and Farmington became known as Farmingbury. Farmingbury became an independent parish and was later incorporated as an independent town. It was renamed after Lieutenant Governor Oliver Wolcott, who cast the deciding vote in favor of independence. Today, Wolcott is a suburban town with large tracts of undeveloped land.
