History of Southbury, CT
The town of Southbury, located in New Haven County, Connecticut, includes rural and suburban areas and historic districts. It is within driving distance of New York City and Hartford.
Southbury and several other towns were formed from a parcel of land that was bought form the Paugussett tribe in 1659. The land that includes Southbury was originally part of Woodbury. Industry grew in the 19th century and included mills, tanneries, and distilleries powered by water from nearby rivers. Southbury was a rural farming town until industry grew with the development of the Interstate Highway System.
