More Information about Shelton
The city of Shelton, Connecticut was originally part of the town of Stratford. Stratford also included the present-day towns of Trumbull and Monroe. Shelton separated from Stratford in 1789 and became known as Huntington. A manufacturing village was named Shelton in the 1860s and was incorporated as a city in 1915. It was combined with Huntington in 1919 to form the present city of Shelton.
After the decline of industry in the city in the 1970s and 1980s, Shelton began a period of investment and redevelopment. It is now known for the office space that houses dozens of large businesses and its revitalized downtown area.
