The Town of Brookfield, Connecticut, located in northern Fairfield County, was originally settled in 1710. It was known as the Parish of Newbury, incorporating parts of the towns of Newtown and Danbury. The town of Brookfield was established in 1788 and was named after the local Congregational Church’s first minister, Reverend Thomas Brooks.
In the early days, the people of Brookfield subsisted by hunting, gathering, and farming. The town grew into a mill area known as the Iron Works District. It later became the headquarters of LEGO USA and is now a destination for shopping. The area around Candlewood Lake is a popular place to visit in the summer.
